Italian Society of Fish Pathology
Sipi
The Italian Society of Fish Pathology (SIPI) was founded in 1987 in Padua. SIPI has the purpose of promoting, encouraging and developing studies on aquatic animals pathology and related topics. Moreover, SIPI is actively involved in the creation of national and international networks involving researchers, stakeholders and institutions, in order to promote and coordinate the interactions among them.
SIPI’s journal
“Ittiopatologia” is the official scientific journal of the Society. This journal has been authorized by the Court of Udine (Aut. No. 10 of March 27, 1990) and identified by ISSN No. 2281-8189.

All the published volumes of “Ittiopatologia” are available in the Reserved Area of the SIPI website. The official language of the journal is Italian, but abstracts of the papers are available in English too.
Join the SIPI
The registration to SIPI is annual and provides you updates on SIPI activities, discounts for the participation to SIPI annual conference/events, as well as the subscription to the SIPI journal “Ittiopatologia”.
Registration can be done using the online form, by filling the requested fields.
Different quotes are requested as membership fee: € 30 for students or for un-permanent staff members (such as fellows/contractors) within public Institutions; € 50 for all other positions. Moreover, an annual registration fee of € 200 is requested to SIPI Supporting Members. Visibility will be given to all the supporters during the SIPI’s events.
SIPI’s Conferences
SIPI organizes annually a National Conference, representing an important meeting for scientific data discussion and sharing among researchers and stakeholders; moreover, an annual free of charge technical-scientific meeting focusing on current scientific topics is scheduled.
SIPI also supports and patronizes scientific events in collaboration with universities and other Italian and International Scientific Societies.
Prizes
SIPI is usual to assign Prizes to members that stand out for their scientific contribution to fish pathology research.
Different categories of prizes are established and awarded during the annual SIPI Conference:
- Award for the best oral and poster contributions during the conference
- Ettore Grimaldi’s Award for the best scientific publication produced by young researchers (under 40)
- Pietro Ghittino’s Award for the best young researcher career (under 40)
Prizes are awarded also to the best Degree, Doctoral, Specialization and Master Thesis related to fish pathology, discussed in the relevant academic year

The main purpose of SIPI’s working groups is to share knowledge on different topic selected for each group and to produce dedicated guidelines. Requests for participating to the groups should be addressed by e-mail to the referred contact person.
Only SIPI’s Members with regular payment of the annual fee are allowed to be part of the working groups.
